Why Meghan Markle's Family Feud May Finally Be Coming to an End

Why Meghan Markle's Family Feud May Finally Be Coming to an End
Well, Samantha Markle made good on her word.
The combative half-sister of Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, arrived in London this week as she and her publicist threatened she would, hell-bent on confronting her estranged sibling over the various grievances she and her father Thomas have routinely aired out in the press and on social media since the poor woman's engagement to Prince Harry was announced last year.
"After making numerous attempts in private to arrange a one on one meeting with The Duchess of Sussex to discuss their 74 year old father's health, Kensington Palace have refused to respond," publicist Rob Cooper  tweeted  late last month. "I fear Meghan may not be made aware of these discreet attempts and therefore making this public is the only option we have left. I currently have Samantha in Europe with just one short flight away. This DOESN'T need to be public, we would prefer to keep this private. Samantha is coming to the UK this week, like it or not."

Setting aside the absurd fact that Samantha even has a publicist, what happened once she arrived in England has us hoping that maybe, just maybe, this might be an end to the circus that has overshadowed Prince Harry and his bride at every turn.
As expected, her invitation for a tête-à-tête inside Kensington Palace—or anywhere else, for that matter—with Meghan failed to materialize. And as expected, Samantha landed herself yet another televised interview with the British press, sitting down with Channel 5's Jeremy Vine on Monday morning to discuss her failed attempt at communicating with her half-sibling. But it's what she said when cameras were rolling that's given us hope—faint hope, to be sure; a mere glimmer—that the Markles may soon be taking a different tack when it comes to their estranged family member.
"Water under the bridge," she said.
"I wish things could be different," she said.
"Believe it or not, it doesn't mean we love you any less," she said.
It was a stunning about-face from the women who is writing a book, once entitled The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister and now renamed In the Shadows of the Duchess, about the half-sibling who is 17 years her junior; who has, on occasion, referred to said half-sibling as "Cruella de Vil," "arrogant and ignorant," and the "Duchess of Nonsense."
It's hard to discern, exactly, what motive is behind Samantha's latest reversal in attitude when it comes to her sister—aside from an obvious attempt to save face as she faced down a withering line of questioning from Vine. But what a reversal it was.
Her nasty tweets at her sister? "I was really lashing out at media." Right.
The logic behind her book's initially ugly title? "The title of my book was meant to make a mockery of social labels." Uh-huh.
Her decision to blame Meghan for her father's death while he was still, you know, alive? "In the beginning, when we spoke publicly, I thought we were being openhearted and even favorable. That fell on deaf ears, and the media turned it into something that it was not." Sure, OK.
It remains baffling, Samantha's refusal to take any sort of responsibility for the circus that her family has been caught up in all these months. There remains an excuse for everything. What once was the fault of a heartless half-sister and her controlling royal in-laws is now the fault of a cruel media, who've either twisted words or invented them wholesale. It's absurd, really, when you take into account her Twitter account, but it does mark a notable shift in the way in which she's speaking about her sister.
"As long as she's happy, then that's what we've wanted," Samantha told her interviewer, promising that if she and Meghan were to get to speak, she would keep the contents of that conversation private—and yes, that promise seems flimsy at best, all things considered, but we'll take her word for it.

The way that Samantha and her family have conducted themselves in the press has likely damaged their relationship with Meghan beyond repair—provided there was even much of a relationship to begin with. While Thomas' recent scathing commentary regarding his daughter has rocked her, leaving her saddened and unsure she'll ever be able to trust him again, as a source told Us Weekly earlier this summer—though his relative quietude as of late has us hoping that maybe's he's woken up to the damage he's done—there's little proof—aside from Samantha's protestations otherwise—that Meghan and her estranged half-sister ever had much of a connection to speak of.
"Samantha was not a part of that life and in no way shape or form did Samantha raise Meghan until she was 12," a source told E! News last year. "Meghan saw her on occasion at family functions, but never on a regular basis. For about two weeks when Meghan was 12, Samantha moved in with her dad. She has seen her once since then."
It's highly unlikely that Samantha's latest press appearance, however conciliatory it may have been intended, will move Meghan to reach out to those she's become so estranged from, but now that the elder Markle has had her chance to say her piece, speaking directly to the Duchess at times during her interview, apologizing even, it's time she let sleeping dogs lie and move on.
There's little reason to believe that'll actually happen—there is still a book on the way, remember—but there was little reason to believe that Samantha would ever actually apologize to Meghan either. Now that she has, here's to hoping that, for all our sakes, really, this might finally be over, once and for all.

Real Housewives of Atlanta, Porsha Williams
Alex Martinez/Bravo
Porsha Williams is about to give us life with this new piece of bling.
In case you missed the big news, E! News confirmed this morning that The Real Housewives of Atlanta star is engaged to Dennis McKinley.
"I said yes!" Porsha shared on Instagram when showing off her new piece of bling. "Matter of fact I said HELL YESSSS lol !! Love you baby #DM I'm ready for the rest of our life."
As soon as the news was revealed, fans wanted to receive any and all details about the ring designed by Richie Rich. As you likely could have guessed, Dennis didn't disappoint.
"Porsha's ring is incredibly valuable at an estimated retail price of over $750,000," Andrew Brown of WP Diamonds shared with E! News when estimating the value of the ring. "The center stone, an oval cut, is not only very large but looks to be one of the highest quality stones--a D color and most likely VS+"
He added, "The ornate ring is a halo setting with diamond petals around the pavilion and three rows of diamonds on the ring itself...brilliant is an understatement."
E! News has reached out to Richie for comment. The jewelry designer told Page Six that the 13-carat ring costs six figures and took just two weeks to make.
An engagement isn't the only thing Porsha is celebrating this fall. Just last month, the Bravo star announced she was pregnant and expecting her first child with Dennis.
"I am happy, healthy... and pregnant! #BabyMckinley #DM #Blessed," she wrote on Instagram when confirming the news. "Love you all. Thank you for your support and warm wishes. It means the world to us!"
The Real Housewives of Atlanta returns with new episodes November 4 at 8 p.m. only on Bravo.

Dancing with the Stars Season 27: Who Can Still Dance in Week 2?

Dancing with the Stars
ABC
Week 1
The stars! They're dancing again! Can you believe??
It feels like it's been years since we were here, waiting for the stars to dance. It's actually only been almost a year (since this spring's season was all athletes), and shockingly, the stars are dancing about the same as they always have, with a few fun exceptions. One contestant, paralympic skiier Danelle Umstead, is blind, which is incredible, and much less impressively, never before has there been a Dancing with the Stars contestant with "Grocery Store" in his official name. What whimsy!
Another fun thing this season is the fact that Harry Potter star Evann Lynch is competing, and she's really not bad. The only problem is that we're already deep into awkwardly incorrect Potter references, like how Len Goodman is the "name that cannot be said" after his really rude score of 5 for what we thought was a pretty solid first dance.
As for Mr. Grocery Store, whom we all know from Bachelor in Paradise, the poor guy was pretty correct about the fact that he can't dance, but at least he was sorta cute about it. He ended the night with 14, the lowest score of them all, but claimed he still had fun. Good for him and his sparkly shopping cart!
At the other end of the pack, singer Tinashe and former NFL player DeMarcus Ware each rightfully earned 23/30, which is pretty dang good for night one, Fuller House star Juan Pablo Di Pace also did pretty well with a 22 and a standing ovation for his extremely sexy number.
Much of the night was not all that surprising, but one thing we were happy to note was that typically, there are much worse dances on night one. Most contestants were better than we thought they'd be, which is great for everyone involved.
Check out the full scores, and weigh in on your favorite dancer in the poll below!
Joe Amabile: 14/30
Nikki Glaser: 17/30
Evanna Lynch: 18/30
Danelle Umstead: 18/30
John Schneider: 18/30
Nancy McKeon 18/30
Mary Lou Retton: 19/30
Milo Manheim: 20/30
Bobby Bones: 20/30
Alexis Ren: 21/30
Juan Pablo Di Pace: 22/30
Tinashe: 23/30
DeMarcus Ware: 23/30
Eliminated: Nikki Glaser and Gleb Savchenko
DWTS 27
ABC
Week 2
The stars are back to dance again with a New York City theme, and everybody was actually pretty good despite the fact that it's only the second week. Multiple people are already getting nines! People are also already getting injured, like Nancy McKeon, who danced despite a fractured foot.
One thing we suspected in week one was confirmed this week: Tinashe is the one to beat. Even if newbie pro Brandon Armstrong's choreography lacked a big of "Argentine flavor," it was clear that this girl is good. Is she too good? Does she have too much dance experience? Probably, but she also might be one of those contestants who is so fun to watch that we just don't care.
At the other end of the pack, Grocery Store Joe got better! He's still in last place, but he improved a ridiculous amount since last week and is no longer embarrassing to watch. We're really happy for him, but will he still get all the votes that kept him safe last week? Probably!
Here are this week's scores:
Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson: 17/30
Danelle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev: 18/30
Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess: 20/30
Nancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy: 21/30
Mary Lou Retton an Sasha Farber: 22/30
John Schneider and Emma Slater: 23/30
Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe: 24/30
DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold: 24/30
Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten: 25/30
Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke: 26/30
Milo Manheim and Witney Carson: 26/30
Tinashe and Brandon Armstrong: 26/30

Tyrese Gibson's Wife Samantha Lee Gibson Gives Birth to a Baby Girl

Tyrese Gibson and Samantha Lee Gibson are parents!
Samantha gave birth on October 1st to their daughter, Soraya Gibson. Tyrese made the announcement on Instagram, writing, "Father God we love you for delivering on your promise princess Soraya Lee Gibson is here...... 8 pounds 6 Oz our lives just changed forever.
In April, the couple first announced they were expecting a baby girl. "It was me screaming and just being overly excited and just fired up about the news," Tyrese told People. "Both of our love and energy and magic and families are bonded forever because we're going to have this child."
According to the magazine, Tyrese and his social worker wife plan on raising their baby mostly in Georgia, which is where they got married in a surprise Valentine's Day ceremony in 2017. However, Samantha planned from the start to have her baby in Los Angeles.
The Fast & Furious star has been documenting his wife's pregnancy journey all over social media. On Sept. 24, Tyrese praised his wife's strength as the time got closer to her due date. "#40Weeks pregnant and she's still working out 4 days a week........ The #StrengthOfaWoman is unreal........... Married and family life will always turn your house into a home......" he wrote on Instagram. The picture shows Samantha standing in a black tank top and leggings in front of their home.
On April 4, the Star actor shared a video compiled of photos of Samantha and confirmed the news that she was pregnant. He captioned it, "It's not a rumor....... So proud to share the news - were #pregnant! 'Take my hand and never let go, I will love you and stand with you through thick and thin from my heart, our love will inspire others to lovers to love deeper... Take my hand and where ever you lead me I will follow you around the world'.. -Samantha Gibson."
Although this is the first child for Tyrese and Samantha, the actor is also father to 10-year-old Shayla, who he had with his ex-wife Norma Mitchell. After a heated custody battle in which Tyrese was being investigated for child abuse, he was awarded joint custody over his daughter in November. The abuse probe ended earlier that month. Tyrese declared it "a win" for their daughter "because she gets to spend equal time with both of her parents in joint legal custody while she continues to grow in a happy and healthy environment."
According to Samantha, Shayla can't wait to be a big sister. She told People that the 10-year-old has been "asking for siblings" for a long time.
Congratulations again to Tyrese, Samantha and baby Soraya!

Everything We Know About Cardi B's Fight at an NYC Strip Club Last August

Cardi B has found herself in hot legal water following a rumble at a New York City strip club back in August.
The “Bodak Yellow” rapper surrendered to police on Monday morning and was subsequently arrested, PEOPLE previously confirmed. She was charged with assault and reckless endangerment and will be arraigned Oct. 29.
According to the New York Times and TMZ, the charges stem from an incident that occurred in August, when two bartenders at Angels Strip Club claimed that Cardi ordered an attack on the women because she believed her husband, Migos rapper Offset, had had an affair with one of them.
So what exactly went down at the Queens strip joint on Aug. 29?

The feud between Cardi and the pair of bartending sisters apparently dates back several months. According to TMZ, one of the two, a woman named Jade, says that Cardi had been threatening her on Instagram since early summer.
In June, Jade alleges, she and her sister — known as Baddie Gi — met Cardi in person at an Atlanta hotel, where the 25-year-old rapper confronted her with accusations that she’d been sleeping with Offset — her husband and the father of her then-unborn daughter, Kulture Kiari. Jade, for her part, denied the allegations.

Jade went on to claim that five members of Cardi’s entourage — though emphatically not the rapper herself — appeared at Angels on Aug. 15 and proceeded to rough her up by yanking her hair, pinching her, and even bludgeoning her with an ashtray, according to TMZ.
The supposed attack on Aug. 29 was apparently less planned and sparked by a thrown drink. Cardi and her entourage, including Offset, arrived at the club following his performance at Madison Square Garden with Migos and Drake.

According to Hollywood Life, Baddie Gi was ordered not to dance that night by management, presumably by request of Cardi. But she hit the stage anyway, resulting in alleged abuse from Cardi’s crew, including what TMZ reports as thrown bottles and chairs which caused “serious injuries that required medical attention.”
Though both Jade and Baddie Gi say Cardi never directly touched them, multiple sources — including an interview with an eyewitness on Un-Wine With Tashak — report Cardi stood up on a chair and yelled “I’m Blood — I’ll f—k you bitches up!” (Cardi previously confirmed her affiliation with the Bloods gang in a GQ profile earlier this year.)
In Instagram Stories archived by Hollywood Life, Baddie Gi seemingly referenced the scuffle. “Bitches swear they did something we good,” she wrote. “Y’all was so mad y’all ain’t want me to get on stage…Y’all pulled up with y’all coochies out throwing drinks and s—t what’s tea? Cus y’all ain’t do nothing lmao.”
She concluded the tirade by defending her sister Jade amid claims that she slept with Cardi’s man. “Y’all need to stop making up lies my sister does not f—k with Offset!!”
A rep for the rapper did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment — however, sources close to Cardi previously denied that she was involved in the attack, according to TMZ.

Applebee's $1 Zombie Drinks Are Here Just in Time for Halloween

Applebee's new Dollar Zombie drink is garnished with brains

Applebee's Zombie Drink
From the fast casual eatery that blessed us with $1 margaritas, Long Island iced teas and Bahama Mamas, it's time to get acquainted with the Dollar Zombie.
Our friends at Applebee's (otherwise known as the patron saints of affordable alcoholic beverages) have officially unveiled the latest addition to their "Neighborhood Drink" menu—and it's seriously spooky. Right in time for Halloween, the Dollar Zombie is described by Applebee's as a mixture of rum, pineapple, passion fruit, cherry, lime and garnished with a "gummy brain."
And the price point is spot-on: you can trick-or-treat yourself to the Zombie drink for a single $1 bill at participating Applebee's locations through the month of October!
This time last year, the restaurant first introduced its patrons to the wonders of a $1 margarita, known fondly as the Dollarita. What followed was a rotating menu of super cheap cocktails like a $2 Absolut Vodka lemonade as well as a $3 Grey Goose and cranberry.
"Halloween is a favorite holiday around here, and we're excited to offer guests the opportunity to celebrate all month long with our new DOLLAR ZOMBIE," Patrick Kirk, VP of beverage innovation at Applebee's, said in a press release. "We invite people to get into the spirit early by trying our Neighborhood Drink with an infectious taste. The only thing to fear this Halloween is missing out on this awesome drink."
So if you're of legal drinking age, grab the nearest designated driver and head to Applebee's to get a taste of the Dollar Zombie for yourself!

Ariana Grande Pays Tribute to Aretha Franklin With Emotional Performance

Ariana Grande, The Tonight Show
Andrew Lipovsky/NBC
Ariana Grande is mourning the loss of a legend.
The singer opened Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon by paying tribute to Aretha Franklin. Grande sang a rendition of Franklin's hit "Natural Woman." The performance was certainly a moving one and earned her roaring applause from the audience.
Later in the show, Grande recalled meeting the Queen of Soul during a performance at the White House. The "No Tears Left to Cry" star described the late artist as "so sweet."
"It's an honor to have met her and we're going to celebrate her," she said.
Grande said Franklin even called her once asking if she'd listen to a family member's music.
Grande's emotional tribute to the 18-time Grammy winner follows the news of Franklin's passing on Thursday. Franklin's publicist told E! News she died "surrounded by family and loved ones."
"In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds," part of the statement read.
Since then, there has been an outpouring of adoration for the late legend. Celebrities like John Legend, Barbra Streisand and Elton John took to social media to speak their praises of the Queen of Soul.
Former president Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama expressed their condolences in a statement, saying, "Aretha may have passed on to a better place, but the gift of her music remains to inspire us all. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace. Michelle and I send our prayers and warmest sympathies to her family and all those moved by her song."

Throwback Alert! Which MTV VMAs Look from 2008 Is Still Your Favorite?

A lot can change in 10 years...especially fashion!
Ahead of the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards on Monday, Aug. 20, we're taking a look back at 12 celebs who rocked the 2008 award show.
Sure, we could go back and think about which stars won the moon men trophies that year like Britney Spears for Video of the Year, or Chris Brown for Best Male Video, but pictures from the red carpet take us back so much quicker.
In case you weren't watching 10 years ago, or simply forgot what your favorite celeb was wearing at the event, we've got you covered.
In 2008, TV chatter was all about The Hills' (AKA Lauren Conrad attended wearing a bubble-style mini-dress), the Sex and the City movie was hot, and Spears had just dropped Blackout and Circus was about to hit.
With so many fierce entertainment moments that year we're not that surprised that the style game was so great...and sort of ridiculous if we're being honest.
So, who was the best dressed back in 2008? Well, that's for you to vote on, but we do have a few stars in mind.
For starters, the "Piece of Me" singer looked ah-mazing as she accepted her three awards that year in a fitted, shimmer frock.
Back then, Taylor Swift was still a curly, blonde country pop singer without any reputation and her dress choice matched that. She rocked a fun and flirty blush dress that was just so pretty and innocent.
If you remember correctly, this is also the year that Kristen Stewart wore a shirt dress. It looked like a shirt shirt, but we're pretty sure the Twilight star was wearing it as a dress.
Katy Perry on the other hand, turned heads as she walked the carpet in one of her retro-inspired, high-waisted shorts and halter bustier looks and then posed with Miley Cyrus who was still in her Hannah Montana phase, which we will forever love.
Lindsay Lohan and Rihanna were also fashionable ladies to watch as they hit the carpet in short frocks that showed off their killer legs.
Take a look at some of the best and most iconic style moments from the 2008 MTV VMAs below and vote for the one you still love most.
Tune in to see what the celebs wear this year when the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards air live from Radio City Music Hall on Monday, Aug. 20 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
