Tech company launches new 'spy' glasses, changes name to Snap Inc.

Snapchat's Spectacles

Snapchat has long been rumored to have some kind of 'special' camera glasses in development and it turns out they are actually real. The company first attempt at hardware will be this pair of glasses called "Spectacles" and they will go on sale later this year for $130.

This bit of news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal(WSJ) and corroborated by multiple sources after that. The glasses will be available in only one size, but will be available in three colors namely Black, Teal, and Coral.

To start recording on the glasses, you just have to tap a button on the side of the glasses. The glasses will capture the video Snapchat-style, meaning you can only record a 10-second video at any given time.
The video will then sync with your phone, which would presumably make it available to be shared as a snap.
The camera will use a 115-degree lens - which is bigger than the lens on a smartphone or normal cameras - and the video recorded will also be circular.
There is no information yet on how the video will be displayed on the Snapchat app, but the large field of view which the size of the camera lens provides could help Snapchat crop it to either a vertical format or update the app to allow viewing of circular views.
Though the Spectacles will be available to the general public later this year, WSJ quotes Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel as saying the glasses will only have "limited distribution" and will not "be relied upon for significant immediate revenue."

This means that the Spectacles could eventually be like Google Glass when it was initially launched - available to be purchased but extremely hard to find.
In other news, Snapchat has also rebranded, dropping the "chat" in its name and will be known as just Snap Inc., as speculation had earlier predicted. This means that Snapchat the app will not be the only product that the company now makes.
