BuzzFeed’s news site, BuzzFeedNews has reportedly been breached by hacker group OurMine.
The hackers “vandalized” a number of BuzzfeedNews reports and left messages stating, “Hacked by OurMine team, don’t share fake news about us again, we have your database. Next time it will be public. Don’t f[***] with OurMine again.”
The hack was in retaliation to a BuzzFeed story that exposed an alleged member of OurMine. OurMine denied any connection to the alleged member of the group and seem to have protested by, of all things, hacking BuzzFeed News.
TheVerge reports that BuzzFeed took down the affected posts “within minutes” and that BuzzFeed was working to restore all stories in their original form. BuzzFeed has since posted the following message on Twitter…
…
OurMine’s reference to a database might seem ominous, but there’s no indication from OurMine or BuzzFeed as to what that database contains.
We found at least one post on the BuzzFeed News site that’s still to be purged of OurMine.
OurMine has been making a name for itself off-late, going around hacking Twitter accounts of prominent celebrities, including those of Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai and Twitter’s Jack Dorsy.
