Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 leaked online; traced to breach at Star India

Earlier this week, it was reported that hackers had stolen 1.5 terabytes of data from television network HBO's servers. The development harked back to the now infamous 2014 Sony hack, however, the HBO incident seems to be of even greater magnitude.

The hackers had leaked unreleased episodes of HBO's shows Ballers and Room 104. They further threatened to leak unseen episodes of the channel's global hit series, Game of Thrones.
While HBO had kicked its cyber-security measures into high gear in an attempt to minimise the damage from the hack, it now emerges that episode 4 from season 7 of the show — titled The Spoils of War — was leaked online. The episode is scheduled to be telecast on Sunday night, 6 August, in the US (and Monday morning, 7 August, in India).
But Star India has confirmed that the leak was not caused by the HBO hackers and that it was a breach on that part.
“We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action," said a spokesperson of Star India, as reported by The Verge.
An Indian Express report stated that the leaked episode bore watermarks of Hotstar, the streaming service on which Game of Thrones airs in India.
Game of Thrones season 7 can be streamed on Hotstar every Monday at 7.30 am and is telecast on Star World every Tuesday night at 11 pm. This is the penultimate season of the show, that began airing in 2011.
