Nokia Camera app launched by HMD Global in the Google Play store

Nokia's brand licensee HMD Global today released its camera application on the Google Play store. While this may have enthusiasts immediately drooling, the application is available for download only for HMD Nokia phones.

The news of the upload reported first by Android Police also stated that the current version of the application is v6.0080.07.
While it may not be unusual for manufacturers to upload their custom system applications to the Play Store, it could be stated that this move by HMD Global was made to allow the app to be updated outside of Android system updates.
The launched camera app is also reminiscent of the camera interface previously present in Nokia's Lumia series, however, a major complaint is the lack of a manual mode as well as a panorama mode, present on other stock camera applications.

HMD Global and optical giant Zeiss signed a partnership deal last month that will see the Zeiss brand come back to Nokia smartphones offering superior camera quality on Nokia phones. The similarity in the camera interface could be attributed to the partnership with Zeiss as the last devices to have Zeiss Lens were the Nokia 808 PureView and the Lumia 1020.
The news also comes days after Nokia 3 users were pleasantly surprised by Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer (CPO) of HMD Global who confirmed that the phone would be receiving the Android Nougat 7.1.1 update by end of August.
