Here's a little piece of sunshine for you:
A petition seeking a ban on Sony Entertainment Television's latest show Pehredaar Piya Ki has been filed on www.change.org. The show revolves around the relationship between 18-year-old Diya and Ratan, a boy of nine.
The makers of the show had earlier defended the show, terming the relationship between the protagonists a 'rare friendship'. However, as the show progressed, it was felt that it continued to depict several regressive and disturbing developments.
The petition has now crossed the 53,000 mark as per change.org. According to the information provided on the website, the petition will be delivered to Union minister Smriti Irani.
The petitioner claims that the show could affect children by unnecessarily romanticising the relationship between a kid and an adult. It also denounces instances of adult romance depicted in some episodes (sindoor filling, suhag-raat and honeymoon references).
The show has been criticised by a lot of people since its premiere. TV actor Karan Wahi was among the first celebrities to tell the makers that nothing is cute about the show. Here's his post:
Replying to Wahi's comment, Suyyash Rai, one of the lead actors of the show had advised the viewers to "not jump to conclusions" and give the show some time. Here's his post:
