It’s October at last and time to celebrate- not the release of pumpkin spice lattes or the fact that Halloween is around the corner, but National Cyber Security Awareness Month! This annual campaign is meant to raise awareness about the importance of cyber security (as if the numerous breaches in recent months weren’t enough).
National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is “designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity, provide them with tools and resources needed to stay safe online, and increase the resiliency of the Nation in the event of a cyber incident.”
This month marks the 14th anniversary of the National Cyber Security Alliance and U.S. Department of Homeland Security launched NCSAM. Each year, NCSAM highlights the overall message of STOP. THINK. CONNECT.™ campaign, focusing on consumer needs regarding cyber security.
Consumers are encouraged to take safety precautions, understand the consequences of their actions (particularly online) and safely enjoy the Internet.
If you’re looking to actively participate, we encourage you to join Cybrary and become a NCSAM Champion. You can do so here.
As always, we want to spread the importance of cyber security learning and awareness. The team sincerely appreciates the community in helping us to do so, especially this month. You’ll find the Cybrary team participating in many October events where we’d love to discuss issues plaguing the industry and how we can improve on those.
If you get the chance, stop by and meet members of the team at any of the following:
October 6-8: BSides DC
October 9-11: AUSA Annual Meeting & Expedition
October 9-11: ISSA International Conference
October 9-11: ITEN Wired
October 11-12: Cyber Maryland
And, stay updated with the latest events in cyber security, here.
