Secretary Michael R. Pompeo spoke with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and discussed the Special Envoy’s progress on convening a constitutional committee as soon as possible. The Secretary reiterated U.S. support for de Mistura’s efforts to advance the political peace process under the auspices of UN Security Council resolution 2254. Secretary Pompeo and the Special Envoy also discussed ongoing needs for unhindered humanitarian access and the need to end ongoing violence.
