Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met today with UN Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen Martin Griffiths in Washington. The Secretary thanked the Special Envoy for his continued efforts to drive parties toward implementation of the Sweden agreements. The Secretary and the Special Envoy discussed the latest timeline for redeployment of troops in Hudaydah, prisoner exchanges, and next steps in the political process. The Secretary expressed concern that the Houthis are deliberately stalling to impede progress. The Secretary and the Special Envoy agreed that parties must make good on the commitments they made in Sweden and continue working to advance the political process.
