We congratulate the tens of millions of Thai citizens who participated in the long-awaited March 24 election for demonstrating their strong support for a return to elected government. The vote, robust media coverage of the process and open debate of its merits are positive signs for a return to a democratic government that reflects the will of the people.

We stand with the Thai people in calling for the expeditious announcement of voting results and a fair and transparent investigation of any reported irregularities.

The United States looks forward to working with Thailand’s newly elected government to advance values that bring our countries closer together, including democracy, security, and prosperity for all citizens.
