App Weekly: Hello Yogurt, Redbros, A Girl Adrift and other games to keep you busy

This edition’s picks all have a little storyline embedded into the gameplay. The stories are incidental to the real game, but serve to brighten it up and lay context for why you are matching three objects or tapping furiously at the screen. A special highlight is Liber Vember, a game that is a benchmark for quirk in mobile games.
Hello Yogurt
Just when you thought they couldn’t make a game about gut bacteria, they did. In Hello Yogurt, you play as a friend of the digestive system and bounce across villi. Hello Yogurt has a fantastic storyline where a scientist sets out to create the perfect strain for lactobacilli in order to prolong life. His motivation is the death of a loved one and he keeps detailed notes on the process which we are privy to.
Hello Yogurt
Hello Yogurt
The insides of the human body is reimagined as a delightful playground for the lactobacilli which keeps bouncing happily until it runs out of energy. The gut is filled with sharp villi and parasites and a host of dangers for the adorable bacteria. The game has great art and design. The gameplay itself is a little slow in the initial levels but becomes tough enough to challenge you pretty soon. Play this game if you like anthropomorphic bacteria, great design or dahi!
Rooms of Doom

Rooms of Doom is again about a scientist. This time, the protagonist wants to create the perfect minion. The first (and disturbing) minion is a cat in a cat. You’ll believe it when you see it. In order to test the abilities of his new creations and judge their fitness, the scientist makes them go through several rooms where they have to prove their mettle at crazy tasks like avoiding electric eel or being launched from barrel to barrel. The rooms become harder and harder with every run and each room is a like a minigame. The amazing art and quick, arcade gameplay make Rooms of Doom a must play. The style of the game will be familiar to people who have played the humorously macabre 'Dumb Ways to Die’.
Redbros
Redbros
Redbros is about a bandana wearing warrior who ventures into the dungeons to save his friends. The coolest thing about the game is the ability to grow your team with more characters when you save them and to control all their actions with a single swipe! You can split the group or have them make a particular formation. The animation is adorable and there are 150 characters to be unlocked who will join you in your journey or die along the way. The game is played across series of tiny rooms with puzzles to solve and enemies to slay. Different spells allow you to teleport or fire meteors at the creatures which inhabit the dungeon. The game is quite unique in its ability to incorporate several other characters in the gameplay. The levels are spread across different landscapes like a desert or a frozen wasteland.
Limber Vember
Liber Vember
We have played a lot of mobile games but never has one been as weird and elegant at the same time as Liber Vember. Think Botanicula mixed with Studio Ghibli’s artwork and hidden object gameplay to get a rough idea of what this game is about. The text isn’t very comprehensible but you’ll see the beauty of this game nevertheless. The story is told through a series of black and white images which depict a town of seeds who lived in a tree. Now, they have all run away and must be found and returned to their town. The art is gorgeous and absurdist. There are ice cubes walking around on two legs and that is just the beginning. In each level, you are supposed to look at the three-dimensional world and pick out the characters given at the bottom of the screen. Contrary to other hidden object games, you will actually have to observe hard in order to find the crazy seeds you are looking for. Sometimes, the difference between the creature you think you’ve found and the one you are looking for is just the gait! This is a game that demands to be played because of how weirdly wonderful it is.
Konbini Story

Here’s a game that might soon become your guilty pleasure. Konbini Story is about running a convenience store in Japan. It is a representative of the genre that never dies. In Konbini Story, you serve customers by creating matches of the products they want. Each level has a different goal to achieve in limited moves. The goals do require some planning and you cannot keep idly swiping in order to complete the level. The art is quite kawaii. The game is addictive and you might find yourself breezing through several levels and losing track of time with this one. And that is the very reason why Konbini Story is worth playing.
A Girl Adrift
A Girl Adrift
A Girl Adrift is about a world that has been submerged and a lone girl on a raft who is trying to survive. She sets out on her raft and fishes, trading what she finds from the sea for other resources. The game can be best described as a survival clicker with an element of fishing. She soon meets other people in different cities and you can tell the origins of the developer by the cities listed. She can drift to Tokyo, Seoul or Busan at the very beginning. The art and sometimes even the dialogue conveys the desolation of a post-apocalyptic world while still being aesthetically pleasing. You can catch giant fish who each have something to say about themselves. The game is about going to different locations and catching various kinds of fish. You lay down the bait and tap aggressively when a fish bites the hook. A Girl Adrift is a unique clicker with a storyline which you should definitely check out.
