The Art of Social Engineering: A Crying Baby and a Phone Call

The persistent, eternal weakest link in the realm of cybersecurity is: the human being. This has been and will likely remain true; the art of social engineering continues to be a captivating topic for hackers and their targets alike.
According to an article on Express VPN, “Social engineering is the dark art of manipulating people. A social hacker might want access to a building, get hold of information they aren’t supposed to have, or simply increase their status in society.
Social hackers have been glorified in movies like ‘Catch Me If You Can’ and ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ and the same charm that gives them the capabilities to manipulate victims, can be turned to make them stars for an adulatory public.
Social hacking can come in many forms, such as telephone and email scams, deliberately exploitative marriages, or entire fake identities that are maintained over decades.”
We’ve seen this. We know this. We need to continue to understand this because social engineering is here to stay and, in fact, may become more prevalent as technical cyber software and hardware becomes more effective. It’s worth noting a few down sides in social engineering include time, resources, and effectiveness. Yet, companies and individuals continue to fall prey to social engineering techniques every minute of every day.
For some, seeing is believing. If you’re one of those people (like me), watch this short video to witness the art of social engineering in action: “This is how hackers hack you using simple social engineering” –
