The State Department hosted the 21st Century Border Management Initiative Executive Steering Committee on Monday, October 15, an annual policy-level conference to discuss the strategic partnership between the United States and Mexico to secure the border and improve border efficiency.
The U.S. delegation was led by Department of State Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Dale Eppler and Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Dimple Shah. The Mexican delegation was led by Jacob Prado Gonzalez, Acting Under Secretary for North American Affairs at the Secretariat of Foreign Relations.
During the meeting, they reviewed the status of U.S. and Mexico’s ongoing efforts to expand law enforcement and security cooperation between the ports of entry, modernize and better utilize border crossing infrastructure, and facilitate the secure flow of goods and people across the border.
